Phoenix officeworker Marion Crane is fed up with the way life treated her. She went to meet her lover Sam in lunch breaks and they can not get married because Sam has more of his money in maintenance. One Friday Marion is trusted bank $ 40,000 by her employer. Since the opportunity to take the money and start a new life, Marion leaves town and heads for California Sams store. Tired after the long drive and in the storm, she left the highway and went to the Bates Motel. The motel is managed by a quiet young man called Norman who seems to be dominated by his mother.
